The Moravian Diaries
The Moravian ministers from nearby Graceham wrote letters and kept diaries beginning in 1750. As part of the “Recovering Identity” project, the Catoctin Furnace Historical Society, Inc. hired Edward Quinter to translate all passages related to Catoctin Furnace, the African American population, weather events, illness and death, celebrations such as weddings, baptisms, funerals, and any additional information that might illuminate the lives of the Catoctin Furnace ironworkers and their families.
